With another hot summer around the corner, it will soon feel better to enjoy the view from a lovely sunroom instead of being outdoors. They’re also a beautiful way to spend a chilly winter afternoon when you’d rather sip on hot chocolate than brave the cold wind. However, sunrooms come with unique challenges when it comes to heating and cooling. Efficient Home Solutions has helped many homeowners figure out how to keep the temperature comfortable in these areas, and we’ll cover a few of those today.
Window AC Units and Space Heaters
In some cases, it’s a simple and cost-effective fix, especially if your sunroom has windows that open. Window air conditioning units have come a long way, and now are available in different configurations that can match any window shape or size. They’re also great at getting heat and humidity out of the room.
Thinking ahead to the winter (we know that’s hard to do right now!), space heaters are a great option. While less effective than an HVAC system, they’re easy and convenient to use. Two things to know if you go that route: you may need to wait patiently for your sunroom to warm up since they take a bit longer, and you’ll also want to make sure you get a model that’s powerful enough to heat the entire room.
Replace Your HVAC System, or Expand Your HVAC Vents
Now we’re talking about a big project, with a lot to consider. A new system will obviously be more efficient than an old one, and EHS has a wide variety of products and popular brands. We also offer financing to help you make this investment in your home. Keep in mind that it’s so important to have preventive maintenance every six months – no one likes a surprise when extreme weather hits! We’re there for you in an emergency, but it’s better to prepare your entire house along with your sunroom.
You can also look at expanding your HVAC system’s vents into your sunroom – this is a terrific option for having consistent and thorough cooling and heating. Before making that choice, have us take a look at your system to make sure it can handle the extra square footage. For that matter, you might want to have EHS come out anyway, to conduct a free home energy audit and see if there are ways you can conserve more energy.
Go Ductless With a Mini-Split System
One solution that falls between a window unit (or space heater) and a brand new system is using a ductless unit, also known as a mini-split. These are designed to give you the benefits of cooling
and heating without undergoing a major install. They typically consist of a wall-mounted indoor unit, attached via a small hole drilled into the wall, along with an outdoor condenser. This setup makes it easy for you to control the individual temperature of your sunroom. One thing mini-splits can’t do is push air throughout your home, so they’re best for heating and cooling smaller spaces.
